The VETomat
Client:
Fontys x VEGA
Type:
University project
Process:
Research, Ideation, Design, Test
Overview:
During my 7th semester, I had the opportunity to participate in a week long pressure cooker project
in collaboration with the Vega Design School in South Africa. The theme that we had to work over was
“AI in 2050”, with our focus of choice - health care. Our team had five days to come up with an
idea, research, design, and test how Artificial Intelligence will benefit various health services in
the future.
Research Question
“How will AI influence the health care field in 2050?”
Design Challenge
Design an interactive AI solution that allows vets in 2050 to easily understand the healthissues of
sick/injured pets

Work Process
Due to the short period of time that we had to work on this project, our team had to quickly go from one stage to the other. This is why we had to follow the Waterfall method, in order to complete all of our tasks within each step. Apart from that, all of the 4 phases were co-dependent, meaning we could not continue with designing the prototype before researching how such devices actually work.

The Solution
The VETomat - a small portable device for veterinarians to pinpoint and understand a pet's pain or illness quickly. Combining Electroencephalography (EEG), Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and AI technology, it detects brain waves and electrical changes in the nervous system, pinpointing the affected area. Using voice commands and an animal recognition camera, the VETomat can target specific areas and objects. After scanning, the device projects an interactive hologram of the pet, highlighting health issues and suggesting potential solutions in real-time.

The youth worker gets more familiar with the different social media platforms offered on Social Sphere.
The youth worker opens Social Sphere in their browser and creates an account.
The youth worker chooses to learn only one social media - Instagram. They navigate to the Home Page.
The youth worker starts the first lesson for Instagram - "Creating a post".
After they finish the lesson, the youth worker takes the quiz.
The youth worker wants to explore their awards and certificates, so they visit they Account page.
Further Development
Due to the short period of time and the type of this project, there are still number of things that can be improved within the concept. Further research is recommended to determine exactly how the translation between scanning and live results will be executed. Apart from that, the topics of magnetic fields and pets should be explored more to make sure that this process won't be harmful to the animals. Lastly, extensive testing process should be carried out with all of the targeted groups - owners, pets, and veterinarians.
